Trig #3 - Urambi Hill

21 June 2020
By mid-June I'd definitely caught the bug, because 2 days after climbing Mount Painter I thought I'd try another trig. It was getting late by the time I decided I'd go, so I went for something local and (I thought) quick and easy.

Urambi Hill sits on the edge of Kambah, just next to the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. I've walked up the other hill before from the other side (Meredith Circuit), but I can't remember ever walking to the trig point.

I parked at the bottom of Learmonth Drive where there is a little carpark. I thought this must be where people park to walk up the mountain, but I think they may take a different path to the one I took.
The first part of the walk was a pretty easy uphill walk up a fire trail. Then, I went through a fence and followed a bush trail, which took me up a steep, rocky trail. It was hard going and my heart was pounding when I got within sight of the trig. I must admit I thought briefly about giving up, but a friend's words in my ear "I just tell myself - just do it!" got me moving and I managed to get to the top.
As usual, it's a fantastic view from the top; with views to South Point (Hyperdome) in Tuggeranong and the Bullen Range/Murrumbidgee River from the other. The summit is a lovely spot, and there's even a bench to enjoy the view.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to do that for long as I could see some yucky weather coming in from the west. An old fellow walking his dog told me that I wouldn't make it down before it started raining and I believed him.

I didn't want to walk back down the way I came, so I walked down the saddle between the hills a little way, then joined up with the fire trail to walk back to the car. I had a bit of an audience as the rain started. :)

The old fellow was right - I was wet and cold by the time I got back to the car, but it was a decent walk.

Urambi Hills
Elevation - 713m.
Distance walked - 3km
Time to trig - about 25 minutes (15-20 for a fitter person!).
Difficulty - medium-hard. Especially the way I did it!
