Today I learned a lesson about researching my routes.
I was keen to do a walk after work, but as I didn’t leave until after 5pm I needed something close and not too long. I checked Google Maps and decided to go for Percival Hill, which isn’t too far away from work in Nicholls. Well curses to you Nicholls!
When I looked at the map I thought it looked like a good idea to park at the Dinosaur Museum at Gold Creek and walk from there. Good in theory, but then I ran into the big black fence around the golf course, and the gated community next to it! No go! What was even more frustrating was that I could see people within the fence walking their dogs and such. Mocking me!!
After wasting a good 12 minutes or so walking around looking for a way in, I decided to cut my losses and head back to the car. But, being the stubborn person I am, I was determined to visit the trig. So then came the next frustrating part where I had to drive the LONG way around to the other side of the golf course and park in a side street to complete my walk. Luckily this time I managed to find the trig!
The walk itself was pretty straightforward. It took me about 10 minutes to walk to the trig, and the path is pretty good all the way.
The view is much more lovely than I expected, too. Though I didn’t really have time to enjoy it as it was already getting dark. Curses again Nicholls!
There isn’t much in the way of wildlife, except a few magpies and a bunch of rabbits. The trees are pretty sparse too. Not nearly as lovely and bushy as some of the other walks I’ve done. But, with the extra bit at the beginning I managed a half hour walk, so we got there in the end! Perhaps it’s another I’ll have to try again some time.
