Trig#13 - Mount Rogers

I didn’t get out for a walk over the weekend as the spectacular late winter weather had me in my garden pretty much the whole time. Beautiful (I’ll tell you about my garden hobby another time)!

So Tuesday after work I decided to go for a walk. It was a beautiful evening and the first day of spring, so it wasn’t hard to get motivated. 😀

It was already after 5 when I walked out of work, so I decided to go for a nearby trig. I parked my car at Fraser Primary and walked up the hill to Mount Rogers.

When I say up the hill, I mean HILL. It’s a pretty good climb up Daley Crescent, where I diverted to the footpath travelling up behind some houses. It led me to a nice grassed reserve just below the Mount Rogers reserve car park.

From there, it’s a nice walk up a rough dirt track. It’s not overly steep (the steepest part was prior to the car park), but the track is a little uneven so if you’re prone to tripping or turning your ankle a bit of extra care might be needed. The bush is nice - lots of trees and bush for the birds to hide in.

There aren't many kangaroos etc, but lots of bird life. I was excited to see a yellow-tailed black cockatoo fairly close (I occasionally tend to bird-nerdiness).

Mount Rogers is a funny one in that it doesn’t stand out like other suburban hills. There are houses most of the way up and you can’t really see the trig from the road (not that I’ve noticed anyway). But the views are pretty amazing from the top; from the mountain ranges to the west and Belconnen, Lake Ginninderra and Black Mountain Tower in the east.  Lovely!

Mount Rogers (from Fraser Primary School)
Elevation gain - 706m
Time to trig - about 29 minutes (I reckon it would be 10-15 from the carpark).
Difficulty - easy. It's not too steep, although the trail is a little rough in places.
Best part - black cockatoos!

Trig #21 - Mount Ainslie!

Finally, I have walked up Mount Ainslie! After 50+ years living in Canberra, and 4 years since my last trig, I did it! It nearly killed me,...
